Asankojo Isaev (PhD Fellow)

Asankojo Isaev is a MCSA PRESILIENT PhD research fellow at the School of Law and Government at Dublin City University (DCU), Ireland. Before joining the PRESILIENT project Asankojo occupied the position of an Assistant Professor at the Sociology Department at American University of Central Asia (AUCA), Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, teaching primarily classical and contemporary sociological theory, sociology of culture and political sociology. Asankojo studies sociology at AUCA and then at Central European University (CEU), Budapest, Hungary and cultural anthropology at School for Advanced Studies in the Social Sciences (EHESS), Paris, France, carried out ethnographic research at a EHESS-affiliated Centre Jacques Berque in Rabat, Morocco.


Asankojo’s scientific interests span from the general Sociology of Culture and Cultural anthropology to particular issues regarding Social construction of identity, Literary criticism and literary practices, Critical theory and Sociology of development. Currently, within the PRESILIENT project framework Asankojo is working on “Informality and innovation: building post-pandemic resilient communities in Kyrgyzstan” with a particular focus on the “toi (feast) economy”.
