Marta Massera is a PhD candidate at the French National Research Institute for Sustainable Development (IRD) and the Italian Center for International Cooperation (CCI), within the PRESILIENT programme. Her research focuses on the informal economy in Senegal, with particular attention to gender roles and relations in the production, processing, and distribution of food. She holds a master’s degree in International Development from Sciences Po Paris and has worked for the World Cocoa Foundation as a Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) and Research Analyst, focusing on the economics of the cocoa sector, women’s labor, and deforestation. More recently, she has been involved in international cooperation projects in Senegal, particularly in the areas of food sovereignty.

My research challenges dominant representations of women’s labor in the urban peripheries of Dakar, Senegal, by examining labor and labor relations within the country’s food production, processing, and distribution networks.
